Region: Antarctica

Destinations: Antarctic Peninsula

Ship: m/v Plancius

Highlights: Polar Diving

Cruise cancelled after we left home, on our return we googled the ship and found this wasn't the 1st one to have mechanical issues Oceanwide knew our flights details and had the opportunity to tell our UK tour operator in advance of our flights Our tour operator got us home and a full refund, unclear what Oceanwide contributed to their costs Advise all to book a package with a reputable operator from their own country Don't trust the vessel nor Oceanwide and won't be sending any more money in their direction

Comment from Oceanwide Expeditions

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We fully understand how disappointing and frustrating it must have been to have your Antarctic voyage canceled at the last minute, particularly after you had already traveled to Buenos Aires. We sincerely apologize for the disruption this caused to your travel plans.

The decision to cancel a voyage is never an easy one, nor is it one we take lightly. However, when there is any possibility that a vessel cannot operate with the level of safety we require, we will always choose the safest course of action. In remote regions such as Antarctica, where conditions can change rapidly, we do not take risks with the safety of our guests and crew.

We also understand your concerns regarding the timing of the notification. We informed our guests as soon as a final decision had been made. Extensive efforts had been undertaken to ensure your departure could proceed; however, we faced significant logistical challenges. We recognize that this came late from your perspective, but we did not want to cancel the voyage while there was still a possibility it could proceed safely and as scheduled. Following cancelation, we worked to offer alternatives and refunds as swiftly as possible.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the disappointment this caused. We truly hope you will have the opportunity to experience Antarctica in the future under better circumstances.
