The story of Ernest Shackleton's ill-fated Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition is full of human drama, heroism, and survival against the odds. Considered the curtain call of the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, Shackleton's expedition became beset in the sea ice of the Weddell Sea, losing their ship, Endurance, to the crushing power of the ice. In 2022, 107 years after she sank, the wreck of Endurance was discovered 3,008 meters below the Weddell Sea in a fantastic state of preservation.
Follow in the wake of Shackleton and his men on several of our expedition cruise itineraries to Antarctica, such as our Weddell Sea trips or explore the archipelagos of Antarctica, including Elephant Island, which played a key role in their survival. While the wreck of Endurance cannot be visited, you may pass the general area where her shipwreck lies.
