Antarctica exceeded our expectations- everything about it was magical. We’d met people over the last few months who’ve been there 3-4 times, and we thought, “it’s Antarctica- once is enough”. But now we get it- an incredible place that needs to be protected. From the wildlife to the incredible scenery to the comfort and spirit of camaraderie on the ship and excursions to the incredible crew and expedition staff, I can’t think of anything that could have been improved. We will definitely return….after a trip to Svalbard with Oceanwide Expeditions. You have us hooked on cold weather!
The Oceanwide team did a stellar job in every way. The schedule was always flexible to take the best advantage of landing spots and weather conditions. Hospitality was on point and meals were fantastic. Attention to environmental and personal safety was appreciated. The opportunity to kayak, camp, and scale mountains in Antarctica was very special indeed. I would strongly recommend this trip and this team.
This was the most unique experience. Pippa, and the crew and staff were all wonderful. What an amazing adventure!
The trip was enjoyable, the expedition crew led by Pippa Low, were all knowledgeable about the wildlife, history, and destinations, and shared their knowledge both thru their daily lectures and one-on-one conversations. They also tried their best to plan and make sure to provide us cruises, landings, and activities that will give us a best chance to see wildlife activities. The Dining room crew from the stewards to the chefs all went out of their way to provide us with delicious meals each day. Room Service staff Victor was also very attentive to our needs, and very good in making interesting bath towel arts in the shape of various animals, such as elephant and rabbit
Having went with Oceanwide on an Expedition to Antarctica, I would highly recommend. In fact, we are already booking our Polar Bear/Arctic adventure with the group of people we met onboard the cruise to Antarctica. Starting with the staff, the entire expedition team who led the daily excursions to shore was phenomenal. Each was an incredibly knowledgeable expert who was hyper focused on safety and having the most amount of fun possible. Big shout out to Pippa, King George, and Paolo who made the entire trip for us. The dining team was also incredible going far above and beyond to keep everyone comfortable. Carol was the belle of the ball and we’d sail again just to see her! As far as the trip itself this was truly a once in a lifetime experience. We have been planning this for years and had very high expectations and this expedition, and specifically Oceanwide beat all of our expectations. Antarctica is a magical place. Photos or words simply cannot do it justice. I would highly recommend visiting Antarctica. And if you’re going to go, I would highly recommend booking with Oceanwide.
We were guests on the Hondius for our 250km Ultramarathon in Antarctica. From the first moment we were on the ship we really felt like guests. Nothing was too much to ask of the staff. Due to our different rhythm as regular guests, the employees really had a lot of extra irregular work to do. And that was done with pleasure. As a result of our races, the kitchen also had a lot of extra work, but even then a Vegan meal was also happily made for my racing partner. Contrary to what I heard from other organizations/ships, we went ashore every day or we went on a zodiac tour. The staff on the zodiacs were great hostesses and told a lot about Antarctica with a lot of knowledge. The ship was big and certainly stable enough to get through the drake passage, but cozy enough to get to know everyone on board. Really recommended. We saw a lot of wildlife, Wales, leopard seals Elephant seals, Penguin's, and a big group of Orca's who were hunting right next to the ship for nearly a hour. The employees at the Hondius have really taken service to a higher level. Next time definitely with OceanWide and the Hondius.
Amazing expedition, and amazing expedition team that made the trip extra special. We’ve had unforgettable knowledge, experience from the team, pipa made her best to ensure that we get the most of our experience. We took part in kayaking activities which made exploration extra special and I think anyone planning to visit Antarctica should not miss the chance to signup for kayaking. Because both Alexis and nick made our daily activity sessions extra special. There was soo much of valuable information that was shared by the expedition staff that we get to carry with us to make a difference. Martin, rose, Paulo were supportive and amazing In addition to the amazing experience and planning, I suggest that there are some movie nights on board when sailing back to the end of the cruise expedition
the trip was marvelous in one word.
Great adventure.
It was everything I was hoping for.
We were on a Basecamp trip, which was ideal for providing a wide range of activities. Unfortunately, some of our activities were foiled by bad weather...high winds, poor visibility and heavy snow. However, the team were great in working around these conditions. The expedition guides and mountaineering guides were all terrific, very professional and knowledgeable. The ship...Hondius...was excellent, just the right size at about 150 passengers, and our cabin very comfortable. Also very seaworthy crossing the rough Drake Passage. On-board communications were terrific, the the staff informing us of the day's activities, conditions and more. This was my second trip to Antarctica, and I would go again. There are new companies coming into the Polar tourism game, but stick with the veterans like Oceanside, and pick a smaller ship.
The best weather ever, gorgious views, lots of wildlife and a great team.
you have to go to Antarctica to believe the beauty of it... just incredible.. the silence, the ice, the wildlife, thanks to all of the expedition staff for this experience
So, how was the trip? Well, let's put it this way when I arrived in Ushuaia and phoned my girlfriend I was quite literally unable to tell her how good it was and instead had to fight to hold back the tears, which shocked her somewhat. From start to finish it was nothing short of epic. The ship was lovely and cabins were excellent, much roomier than I'd anticipated. The crossing both ways was as flat as a pancake and the weather we had in Antarctica was unprecedented, it was that good. We managed kayaking twice a day, every day if you wanted it, and it was incredible. The zodiac cruises and landings were amazing as were the camping and polar plunge. The food was of a really high standard and the variety was perfect. Now, onto the staff. The guides were absolutely phenomenal, altruistic, knowledgeable, funny, friendly and at the same time incredibly professional, I absolutely loved every one of them. The entire crew and all of the auxiliaries were 10 out of 10 and I could find not a single flaw in the whole operation. The attention to detail on board, the lectures, the BBQ on the back of the ship and all of the nice little things that were done for us literally blew everyone away.
Experience for a lifetime! Met lovely people and top guides. Excellent ship and crew. Wonderfull landscape and wildlife.
