El 15 de enero de 2016, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) de EE.UU. actualizaron su aviso de salud para viajes por el virus del Zika a "Nivel de Alerta 2", (Práctica de Precauciones Reforzadas) con áreas específicas afectadas del Caribe y América Central y del Sur. Es posible que haya recibido o visto comunicaciones anteriores con esta información. A partir del 26 de enero, el aviso de los CDC incluye ahora a la República Dominicana y a las Islas Vírgenes de EE.UU. en las zonas afectadas.
