Hondius interactive workshops
When you’re in Antarctica, encountering a sensory overload of astonishing sights and sounds is just part of the deal. In fact, amazement is a virtually impossible reaction to avoid. But if you want to delve even deeper into the polar surreal, select Hondius voyages offer fun, informative, fully interactive workshops that plunge headfirst into a wealth of Antarctic-themed subjects.
While these workshops are not offered on every Hondius voyage, they provide a fantastic optional supplement to cruises already steeped in ample outdoor adventure. Below is a general summary of the choices we currently offer:
Exploring Antarctica’s Earth sciences
There’s far more to the polar regions than glaciers, icebergs, and snow-coated fjords – and that’s especially true of Antarctica. Led by an award-winning meteorologist, our Hondius Earth sciences workshops touch on such topics as Antarctic weather, geology, even space-related phenomena, introducing you to some of the hidden wonders of Earth’s coldest continent.
Investigating Antarctic wildlife acoustics
Antarctica is so visually stunning, it’s easy to get stuck on the sights and leave it at that. But there’s a whole other world that’s only available to the ear, particularly the ear aided by modern technology. That’s why we’ve launched our Hondius acoustics workshop, led by multiple scientists who’ll help you record, replay, and analyze all the strange and enchanting sounds of Antarctica’s wondrous wildlife.
Evaluating the impact of Antarctica’s microplastics
It’s common knowledge among our staff that people who visit Antarctica often become ambassadors for Antarctica, moved by all the beauty they’ve seen to protect this pristine polar world. And there are few threats from which Antarctica needs more protection than plastic pollution. But far from a sad survey of the problem, our scientist-led workshops aim to pose hopeful solutions everyone can be part of.
