The 23 day trip on the Hondius was better than I ever could have imagined. Every day was filled with views, wildlife and wonderful presentations. The team (guides, crew, service, etc) were all friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The ship was extremely comfortable, the food delicious and plentiful and the excursions were fun and informative. The lead guide, Pippa, checked weather daily and made educated decisions with the captain on where we should head. Everyday we were not at sea we had an excursion! The guides were all well educated and gave presentation on history, animals, geology and more. It was great learning about what we were seeing. I highly recommend this trip, Oceanwide and The Hondius !
This trip was beyond out expectations - from crew to guides to activities and itinerary
De reis met de Hondius van Oceanwide is een echte aanrader. Het personeel en de staff doen er alles aan om het naar je zin te maken. Het was een onvergetelijke reis. Als je van plan bent om deze reis te maken is Oceanwide wel een van de beste.

Everything about this ship and the company as about saving money. From rotating limited staff to substandard food. The ship operates for the benefit of the company and certainly not the passengers. Everything is outdated from their equipment to their operating procedures. No polar plunge but a poorly organised polar wade. Limited indoor recreational space for pax. Poor scenic visibility from lounges. Limited drying space after shore excursions and sloppy attention to security details. Boarding zodiacs from a long loosely secured set of stairs made embarking and disembarking zodiacs unnecessarily dangerous. Cabin staff and waitstaff excellent but unsupported. Costumer contact staff inconsistent in their oft times resentful responses.

Two unique special occasions. On separate zodiac trips in bays of the Peninsula on windless still ice-covered waters. The outboard engines were switched off. Everyone was asked to keep quiet and listen to the silence. These precious moments I will never forget. For the most part, people are not used to silence. After a few moments, people need to fidget. We are strangely perturbed by a lack of noise, perhaps made nervous by the extraordinary power silence has, being that it is perfectly comfortable in its own company. Humans, on the other hand, are such noisy creatures - velcro, zippers, sniffles, arranging gloves or beanies, cameras clicking. Then, when the silence is deemed to have been sufficient, we return to the world we make more noisy, zooming away to the chug of outboard engines and the human chatter that seeks to dominate.
This trip was a dream for my whole life and, when the opportunity came to go, I wondered if it could possibly add more to my understanding of these areas and the wildlife than I've absorbed from years of reading books and watching documentaries. The answer is a resounding yes. Each day brought experiences, sights, wildlife observations, intelligent presentations and clear information briefings that together made a life changing and life lasting affect, for me. Every member of the expedition team were experienced, well informed, engaging and efficient in their duties at all time. This professional approach was balanced with fun, when the occasion offered. The ship and every member of its excellent crew ensured we were very comfortable and well cared for at all times. The food was excellent, varied and was adapted to special diets without fuss. To others wanting to really engage with the wonders of Antarctica, consider this expedition.
Empfehlenswert, ausgezeichnete Betreuung und herrliche Landschaften mit vielfältiger Tierwelt
From beginning to end, this expedition was full of excitement and wonder. You truly need to experience the wildlife yourself to believe it is real. Whilst we had many alterations to our itinerary due to weather and bird flu, I believe we got to experience the best that was available to us. The bird flu has wreaked havoc with the wildlife, and I'm sure once this is under control, the experiences will again run mostly to plan. An expedition is the way to go, this was no ordinary cruise. Go in with an open mind, and you will be rewarded. I definitely wish to return again one day!
This was a dream trip for me and the wildlife, scenery, and remote stark beauty did not disappoint. The Expedition leader and guides were incredible! They shared so freely their great gifts of knowledge and respect for the earth and beings of it. Eduardo, you are the bomb. Thank you, Regis, Koen, Ilke, Helene, Koen, Michael, Tom! I most enjoyed that I felt so fully immersed in the magical, pristine, awe-inspiring places of Antarctica and the remote southern ocean islands we visited. The wildlife was fantastic, the penguin breeding colony numbers staggering, the seabirds so cool. The other birders I met on the trip were so nice and what fun seeing what new would show up each day. We were also lucky to have very good weather! This was a hugely expensive venture for me but it was a once in a lifetime trip, not to be missed. If you do this trip, go with few expectations, an open mind and heart, and just be in it. I like getting lost in a good book, but this was the real deal for 3 weeks. I am changed, upgraded, in the best ways.
Lovely trip and well done by all the staff, they did a great job!
We had absolutely the beat expedition leader in Chris. His knowledge of the landing sites was fantastic. We had extremely poor weather to start our expedition so Chris and the Captain flipped our voyage. Weather prevented us from making some landings but we were able to do ship cruising instead of Zodiac cruising, but safety is primary and you do what the Weather, wind and swell, allow you to do. Ours was a 19 night voyage and outside of the lectures and hopefully twice daily excursions, the evenings are boring. Definitely bring something to read or watch cause I didn't. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and trip, the only thing missing was my wife.
absolutely marvellous and completel overwhelming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear stuff, dear guides, It was a wonderful trip with so many different impressions. I was not expecting that. You all did everything possible in your work areas to make me feel comfortable and safe. I have learned so much about this part of the world. I was impressed by the lectures and the guides' enthusiasm for this country. The reception at meals, the food and the encounter with the employees who ensured cleanliness in the cabin were loving. Everyone was so personal and friendly. Thanks! Many thanks to hotel manager Michael, who helped me to have undisturbed sleep and a lovely roommate in the cabin. Many thanks to Edu, from whom I not only take Plan A, B or C, but also my enthusiasm for astronomy. Thanks for the captain who safely took us to so many wonderful places. Thanks for the reverse tour, which was an event all its own. I would love to be there again!
What a trip, very helpful and knowledgeable guides, “hotel” staff all very pleasant. Food was excellent, lots of salads, fruit, fish etc. Staff were safety conscious. Exceeded all my expectations, the wildlife, the dramatic scenery,,the staff , the food etc. Would highly recommend the tri
My trip on Hondius was fabulous! Every single day there was something amazing to see or learn about. The staff was incredible, friendly, knowledgeable, passionate, and kept us safe. I loved seeing all the wildlife on our landings and from the zodiac cruises. The Expedition Team and the Hondius crew helped to create the memory of a lifetime!
