Trip exceeded expectations. Very well planned and managed. Flexible and adaptable to changing weather conditions. From dropping the anchor we could all be on a beach in half an hour or less. Staff always helpful with cheerful smiles. A lot of thought had clearly gone into each days activity. The captain said it was in the top three of the trips he had done. Not sure if that was because of the weather or sightings or a mixture of both. The plan certainly had to be adjusted at times to deal with weather conditions but the expedition staff made their own luck with their hard work.
my best vacation ever!! A dream came true and the crew made it possible along with the great weather we had.
Excelente viaje en un barco de expedición con un equipo inmejorable.
Being on the first expedition since covid-19 got hold of the world, one feels privileged, very privileged. One could sense the happiness of the crew and staff to be at sea again with guests. We had mostly (very) good weather and, therefore, many landings. It gave us the opportunity to watch penguins and seal from very nearby. Plenty of pictures were taken, as well as video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_0xiP2WffA). Almost every day, one or more high level lectures were given on a variety of subjects. Amongst others, about whales, astronomy, space flight (we had an astronaut on board), birds, adaptation of animals to cold (Why penguins don’t wear socks) and many more. A special of the trip was the total solar eclipse on 4 December. We had to get up at 3 a.m., drinks and snacks were standing ready for us in the bar. We experienced the eclipse in almost ecstasy. There was only one tiny detail: cloud coverage was 100 %, but it did get dark. Food, let's not forget food. We were astonished that for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there was always fresh, crispy salads and a wide variety of types of food. The chef and his crew did a terrific job.

When I told my friends I was going to Antarctica for the second time, they didn't seem to understand why. It's difficult to explain to those who don't love this continent, how much it can offer. There is not a single second or a single glance from the ship that is always the same. It doesn't matter how many times you've been there. Weather is different, light is different, life around is different and our gaze is also different. Entering the Weddell Sea and sailing to Snow Hill Island is an experience of thick ice and strong wind, but also of blue skies, fiery sunsets, deserts of light and so much life! Ortelius is an excellent ship, my cabin was a perfect nest and the staff did an excellent job. We landed on Snow Hill on a sunny afternoon, after a helicopter trip of about 20 minutes. Then a short walk to the colony of the Emperor Penguins. When I first see them I think of the film La Marche de l'empereur and I am moved by so much resilience. What a privilege it was to be there! And now, so many kilometers away, if I close my eyes I am still in Antarctica, where sooner or later I will return.
Our trip was so successful it felt as if we might be under some sort of spell of providential protection and luck. Every landing occurred in calm waters with favorable weather and abundant wildlife. We were able to view all eight species of Antarctic penguins, and for several, also observe their breeding and nesting behaviors and chicks. We saw five species of pinniped, many varieties of seabird, and whales too numerous to count. Besides the amazing wildlife we also visited places with such historical significance as to be practically mythological. And then there was the ice! From A68A, the iceberg the size of Switzerland, to deep blue ice sculptures or floes with Emperor Penguins, the ice was always magical. Our expedition team was unparalleled in their skill, knowledge, and constant good humor. Not only was this the trip of a lifetime, but it was the best trip it could possibly have been. Thanks to our captain who so masterfully navigated the ice, and the staff who were unwavering in their commitment to make this a memorable trip for every guest on the ship despite the diversity of language, background, and interests. I will carry the memories of this enchanted trip forever.
a terrific trip all the crew were fantastic Claudia chief guide was amazing and organized all very well. The food was worthy of a 5 star restaurant thanks to Mr Khabir. The lectures all were interesting and informative, Cabins were clean and comfortable and having access to the open bridge to watch icebergs in comfort was a real plus and a captain who knew ice and worked late hours so we could see the emperor penguins all I can say is thank you
Excellent guides, amazing scenery and wildlife, comfortable cabins and ship, very good food, a nice family feel. Expedition leader did an amazing job reorganizing our itinerary as the wind and sea ice blocked our original itinerary into the Weddell Sea. She kept careful watch with weather and sea ice updates and was able to get us into the Weddell Sea for a couple glorious days. She also did a great job maximizing our time on land and enjoying the gorgeous evening/sunset light and scenery after we arrived on the ship, changing our daily schedule (of meetings or meals) somewhat to give us more time to enjoy it. The orcas were amazing. All of the guides are experts who have conducted research in a particular polar field of science and shared their expertise with us regularly in our meetings in the lounge.
Trip to remember. The original trip location was the Weddell Sea, because of wheater condition (ice) we where not able to enter this area. The replacement programme was good organised and for me as a first time Antartica visitor it was a wonderful trip to remember.
Captain Barria and Toni Salo, made the Drake seameless!! Not even dramamine was needed! Beau and the expedition team, was just extraordinary! We had 12 days or magnificent sunlight, and they made sure every day was filled with so many activities, from lectures to landings! They really went out of their way to make this a memorable experience! I engaged in all the activities, which made me enjoy every second on and off board! Pete did a great job, giving EVERYONE a chance to kayak! The Hotel Services were IMPECABLE! 7 STAR SERVICE thanks to Sigi and Melanie! We went to bed each night, looking forward to Sigis cheerful Good morning, Good morning, Gooood morning wake up announcement each morning! The food at the restaurant was delicious and very varied. The service at the restaurant, was always so friendly and they seemed to know us all by names...and our usual drinks! Rolando, at the bar, seemed as if he had know us all for a lifetime! He knew exactly what we wanted to drink and when! We are well aware that the energy of all the passengers, was demanding so much from the crew and staff, but at all times were they so friendly, accomodating... and all around Best in Class!
