Dragan Simic

SerbiaSerbia

I have a background in both journalism and environmental sciences, but it was birding that took from my native Serbia across the Balkans to the four corners of the Old World: England and Spain, southern Africa and India. I write about my birding adventures regularly on 10,000 Birds blog, and periodically publish articles in printed magazines. I always think that birding must be better behind that next curve of the road, peninsula or iceberg, and that the best bird ever is the – next lifer. And this trip is a chance for some 6 to 7 species of penguins alone!

Motivation

Dragan's motivation

I want to write a book – in English – about this “voyage of the Beagle”, about Antarctica and its wildlife in the light of climate changes, and us, the travellers on board the Ortelius and us, the mankind on board our only planet. Working title: The Only Planet.

“It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage.”

Emperor Penguin – Emperor Penguins hunt for fish and other marine life in the open seas or in cracks in the ice. They can dive to depths of almost 550 metres, staying underwater for almost 20 minutes at a time.
